Against All Hope

We talk a lot about having stronger faith, and many people even encourage one another with the familiar phrase, “have faith.” But what does that really look like? It is one thing to try to have faith, it is quite another to walk in faith. Walking by faith requires action and risk. We put what we believe on the line and live it out.

The story of Abraham in the Bible is a perfect example of this. Abraham left everything to go where God was calling him, and he faced many challenges. Romans 4:18 says, “Against all hope,” which tells us that this wasn’t easy for Abraham. But guess what? Verse 18 goes on to say, “Abraham believed.”

So, even in the face of challenges and resistance and seemingly impossible circumstances, Abraham walked by faith. He believed. God wants us to have the same faith that follows him where he leads. Our obedience is the place where God shows up and does his greatest work in and through us.
