Encouraging the Weary

When I first started following the Lord in high school, I soon discovered that my old way of living wasn’t going to match up with what I was now professing. There were many choices I made that weren’t wise as a follower of Christ, and I floundered for a while. But slowly, my eyes were opened, and my heart turned wiser as I learned God’s Word and grew in the knowledge of how I was to live.

Even as a Christian over the last almost thirty years, there have been many times where I’ve found myself floundering because of certain circumstances I was walking through. Walking in faith can be hard, and we will all struggle.

Unfortunately, as Christians, we can be so quick to judge and write off those who seem to be struggling or questioning their faith, but 1 Thessalonians 5:14 is a reminder for us to be patient with everyone.

This verse is primarily speaking of the followers of Christ who were struggling to get it right. The disheartened were those that were afraid of persecutions. They were feeling weak be- cause of the circumstances they were walking through, and they needed hope and encouragement. We can be that today to a brother or sister in Christ. God’s goodness and mercy are available for all, and we play a part in leading others to him.
