Led by the Shepherd

My family loves to go on walks. Sometimes we visit a local nature preserve that isn’t quite the typical neighborhood sidewalk we are used to. The trails are steep and windy at times, with lots of roots sticking out, and a time or two, we have almost fallen, navigating our way.
The Bible uses paths as a common metaphor for a relationship with God often. Like our nature preserve path, our life’s path isn’t always smooth. It sure is nice when it is, but there is a lot more growth when it isn’t. We must be more alert and ready for whatever is in front of us.
Psalm 23 says that God leads us like a shepherd down the right path. The path isn’t always easy, but no matter how rugged it is, with God, our path leads to life. We tend to search for the easier way, but the Shepherd knows what path is best for us. We can trust him to strengthen our legs and steady our feet for the journey.
