The Bread That Truly Satisfies

I am a self-proclaimed foodie. I love farm-to-table restaurants and even have a mental list of all my very favorite meals from different restaurants across the country. I’ve even been known to get very animated while eating. Ha! There is just something so satisfying about the taste of really good food. But no matter how amazing a meal that I eat is, I am still left empty because, yes, food fills my stomach temporarily. It isn’t long and I am hungry again. I need more. Something deeper.
That is why Jesus’ declaration shortly after feeding the five thousand with manna means so much. It didn’t take long, and the crowds were looking for more food to eat! We are all “hungry.” We do our best to fill that deep soul hunger with lots of stuff, whether it is new clothes, looking a certain way, or that next job promotion. But our true source of strength and happiness isn’t from anything we get or do, it is from Jesus. He tells us we can come to Him for true and lasting satisfaction. Nothing else will do.
Jesus is the real bread, the Bread of Life. Our sustenance can only be found in him. We, too, must learn that while manna temporarily satisfies, only Jesus satisfies our spiritual needs forever.
