What It Really Means to Follow

Jesus says anyone can follow him. Anyone who is young, old, male, female, no matter what sins we have committed—anyone and everyone is invited to follow Jesus. Choosing to follow him means that he is at the lead. We come after him. We can’t choose our own path or go our own way. We walk behind him and as we walk behind him, we say no to ourselves.
Many follow Jesus right up until it gets hard and then fall away. Jesus does not promise a comfy, cozy, perfect life. If anyone comes after Jesus, it’s a denial of self and a commitment fully to him. He promises a cross to his followers where we come and die to ourselves and find life in him.
Will you choose to follow Jesus, even when the way gets rocky? God never promised that our lives would be easy. He did, however, promise to never leave us or forsake us as we follow him in this life. (Hebrews 13:5)
