Winning Battles God’s Way

Can you imagine going to war and being told to send your army home? That is exactly what happened to Gideon in the Old Testament times. In Judges 7:2, he was ready to lead the Israelites against one of their enemies, the Midianites, and the task seemed doable with such a great army. Until God told Gideon he wanted him to send most of his army home.

The Israelite army could’ve won with confidence, but God wanted them to see that ultimately it was his strength that wins wars and not their own. Battles are won by leaning on the strength of the Lord, not won relying on our own skills.

At those times when it seems like we are in over our heads, feeling overwhelmed and inadequate, we are exactly where God wants us. At that time, we have no choice but to trust him and cling to his strength and power. And we are in a great position for God to get the glory he deserves.
